Approx 50,000 thoughts per day, a very high percentage of them being negative, of which you have absolutely no control over. If you think you do then good luck with that. Any engagement or rathionalisation is like pouring petrol onto a fire.
A different approach might be to put the effort in to stopping giving them the meaning or the airtime they don't actually deserve.
We do this by redirecting our attention again and again and again to a physical task that holds personal meaning.
This is hard work and it's supposed to be that way. You don't develop the ability over night to swim the English Channel, this takes commitment and alot of training. Same same with building a mind that's a bit more of a friend.
